The sacroiliac joint is the joint formed between your sacrum and your pelvis. There are two sacroiliac joints, one on each side. Sacroiliac joint dysfunction can oftentimes be misdiagnosed as lower back pain, piriformis syndrome, or sciatica. Pain is commonly felt in the lower back and the buttocks but can also travel affecting the thigh and leg. If you have been suffering with a diagnosis of lower back pain, piriformis syndrome, or sciatica without lasting results looking into the sacroiliac joint could be the missing link.

How Physical Therapy Can Help:

Physical therapy can help by evaluating the joint and the surrounding structures to determine the relationship between these structures and your symptoms. Mechanical provocation testing determines the appropriate diagnosis and therefore treatment strategy. Although treatment varies depending upon the individual findings of the patient, if we can minimize or eliminate symptoms by restoring joint alignment, we treat by restoring joint alignment and creating stability around that joint so that alignment can be maintained. We use evidenced based protocols to ensure that you are achieving the quickest and longest lasting result possible.
