Arvigo® Techniques of Maya Abdominal Therapy

For thousands of years, traditional healers, midwives, and shamans have practiced the ancient Mayan techniques of abdominal massage to support the health of the reproductive, digestive, and urinary systems. Building on this wisdom, Rosita Arvigo, DN, developed Arvigo® Therapy after years of study and apprenticeship with renowned Maya healer Don Elijio Panti in Belize.

While this work is best known for helping address a tilted or prolapsed uterus and supporting fertility, it also provides many additional benefits. Practitioners use specific protocols to support individuals through pre-conception, fertility journeys, and postpartum healing.

Not used for fertility purposes alone, these gentle, hands-on techniques help improve digestion, ease pelvic discomfort, and support recovery after surgery.  Men can also benefit from this treatment, which helps with a wide variety of ailments listed below.

Arvigo® Therapy is a form of external, non-invasive massage that uses only the therapist’s hands to help the internal organs return to their natural alignment. This alignment allows for improved flow of blood, lymph, nerve supply, and chu’lel (life force), which supports the body’s natural ability to nourish and heal itself.

Although the name of the technique suggests a focus solely on the abdomen, your therapist also gently treats the lower back and sacrum. This posterior work is an important part of supporting the alignment and function of the entire pelvic and abdominal region.

Common Concerns Arvigo® Therapy May Help Address:

  • Generalized abdominal or pelvic pain
  • Constipation or digestive discomfort
  • Recovery after abdominal surgery
  • Pelvic organ prolapse
  • Painful periods
  • Prostatitis and pelvic congestion in men

Because of the deep mind-body connection, emotional well-being is always part of this work. Each session begins with setting a positive intention and ends with space for reflection. Sometimes, the movement of energy in the abdomen and pelvis can bring up emotions or even release stored trauma. Your practitioner is trained to provide a safe, supportive space for whatever comes up for you.

In addition to hands-on care, you’ll learn personalized self-care techniques to continue your healing at home. Your therapist may adapt these based on your health history and goals. Written instructions are provided after your initial consultation.
