Sexual Function Concerns
Pain With Sexual Activity
Pain associated with sexual activity can occur with arousal, during sexual activity, with orgasm, or afterward. Although sexual pain is more common than many people realize, it is not something you should have to simply accept or live with.
At Pathway, we provide sexual pain physical therapy in Boca Raton for people of all genders who experience sexual pain, helping them better understand what may be contributing to their symptoms and work toward regaining comfort, function, and confidence based on their individual goals.
How Physical Therapy Can Help With Sexual Pain
A comprehensive history and musculoskeletal examination can help us determine which structures may be contributing to your symptoms and whether there are additional factors that should be addressed alongside physical therapy.
Our care is trauma-informed, individualized, and guided by your needs and comfort level. We also collaborate with a team of experienced healthcare professionals when additional support may be beneficial.
Depending on your symptoms and goals, treatment may also include strategies commonly used in pelvic floor physical therapy .
Every person comes to us with a different story, so there is no one-size-fits-all approach. If you have questions about what an evaluation or treatment might involve, we are happy to talk with you about what getting started could look like.
Erectile Dysfunction
Erectile dysfunction can have multiple contributing factors and may benefit from a collaborative approach involving your healthcare team. From a physical therapy perspective, we look at how the pelvic floor muscles, circulation, and nerves are functioning together and whether those relationships may be contributing to your symptoms.
Importantly, both an underactive pelvic floor and an overactive or excessively tense pelvic floor can affect sexual function. This is one reason an individualized evaluation matters — strengthening is not always the answer, and strengthening muscles that are already overactive may aggravate symptoms.
Our Approach
Treatment is based on what we find during your evaluation. Depending on your individual needs, the goal may include improving pelvic floor coordination, reducing unnecessary muscle tension, building appropriate strength, and supporting healthy circulation and nerve function throughout the pelvic region.
