Prostatectomy Care
Physical therapy can be an important part of both pre- and post-prostatectomy care — and it’s about much more than just Kegels. At Pathway, we provide prostatectomy physical therapy in Boca Raton to help you prepare before surgery and support your recovery afterward. Preparing before surgery can help you better understand and coordinate your pelvic floor, breathing, and deep core system while giving you strategies to use throughout your recovery.
Physical Therapy Before Prostate Surgery
Preoperative physical therapy focuses on helping you identify and appropriately activate your pelvic floor muscles before surgery. We may also work on breathing, pressure management, bracing, body mechanics, and movement strategies that can help you navigate the early postoperative period and prepare for continence recovery.
Physical Therapy After Prostate Surgery
Postoperative physical therapy is individualized based on your symptoms, healing timeline, activity level, and goals. Recovery looks different for everyone, so treatment progresses based on what your body needs rather than following a one-size-fits-all program.
Your Treatment May Include
- Pelvic floor muscle training and coordination
- Bladder retraining and continence strategies
- Breathing and pressure management
- Movement, posture, and body mechanics
- Scar and tissue mobility work when appropriate
- Therapeutic exercise and return-to-activity training
- Biofeedback when appropriate
- Manual therapy and fascial techniques
Our goal is to help you move through recovery with a better understanding of your body and a plan that supports continence, mobility, function, and a confident return to the activities that matter to you.
Prostatectomy rehabilitation may also include strategies commonly used in pelvic floor physical therapy , depending on your symptoms and stage of recovery.
