Pain Associated with Sexual Activity:
Pain associated with sexual activity can include pain with arousal, during sexual activity, pain with orgasm, and pain following sexual activity. Pain in any of these instances is more common than you may think but never normal. We help both men and women who have a history of sexual pain regain their function and meet their individual goals. Some common diagnosis that accompany concerns regarding sexual function include vaginismus, PGAD, endometriosis, interstitial cystitis, and POIS.
How Physical Therapy Can Help:
We take a comprehensive history and perform a musculoskeletal examination to identify the involved structures and any additional contributing factors. Our team of seasoned, trauma-informed professionals collaborates to address all aspects of care. Because each client has a unique story, we tailor treatment to their individual needs and comfort level. Please contact us if you have specific questions and we will walk you through how we would recommend starting the process.
Erectile Dysfunction:
Multiple factors typically cause erectile dysfunction, and your team of professionals uses a multimodal approach to address them. As physical therapists we focus on how the pelvic floor muscles, vessels, and nerves are relating to each other and how that relationship can be contributing to your erectile dysfunction. A weak pelvic floor as well as a tight pelvic floor can be impacting your sexual function. This is why completing an evaluation is so important as strengthening tight muscles will exacerbate your symptoms. The goal for treating both a weak and a tight pelvic floor are the same in this case. We work to maximize blood flow, circulation, and facilitate an environment where the pelvic nerves will thrive. Additional diagnosis that can accompany concerns regarding sexual function and erectile dysfunction are hard/flaccid syndrome, Peyronie's Disease, prostatitis, and history of penile injury or trauma.
